Across the nation, the Postal Service has cut greenhouse gases by 13 percent since 2008, recycled more than 223,000 tons of waste, and reduced energy consumption by 31 percent since 2003. Efforts such as those at the Blue Valley Branch Post Office in Overland Park, KS, have helped dramatically reduce the Postal Service’s carbon footprint.

To help do its part to reduce energy consumption, the Blue Valley Team including Maintenance Mechanic Scott R. DeBerg, Maintenance Mechanic Thomas P. Kahrs, Maintenance Mechanic Joseph M. Wranich III, Maintenance Operations Supervisor Oliver L. McGee, and team lead Maintenance Operations Manager Gerald E. Groves replaced 20 high-pressure sodium light bulbs at its facility with LED lights. The effort reduced facility lighting costs by an estimated $2,300 per year and increased the lifespan of installed bulbs to improve customer and employee safety.
