Bringing the Post Office to seniors

During the holidays, customers around the country visited their local Post Offices to send special messages and packages to people on their “nice” list. For some senior citizens, visiting the Post Office to handle their mailing needs can be a challenge. To overcome this obstacle, the Portland District Retail team decided to take the Post Office to seniors.

For the second year in a row, the Portland team visited several retirement living community centers to offer a full range of postal services. Retail Specialist June Norbom along with Creston Lead Retail Associate Desiree Freeman and Parkrose Lead Retail Associates Stephanie Kantola provided mailing expertise, positive attitude and exceptional service to seniors who couldn’t make the trip to the Post Office.

“We received many compliments,” said Norbom. “Seniors appreciated the service because without it, they could not send out a package.”

The united team drove the patriotically-decorated ProMaster vehicle (behind the group) in the parade held on Saturday, July 2. Spectators at the parade clapped and cheered during the celebration, reveling in the colorful displays.

Historic Holiday Experience

During an annual Old Fashioned Christmas celebration recently held in Melbeta, NE, local citizens had the chance to enjoy Victorian era-style events and treats. The Melbeta Post Office participated in the festivities for the 3rd year in a row by holding an open house for visitors.

Besides enjoying appetizing treats such as cookies, cocoa and coffee, customers had the chance to view an antique stamp collection, historic mailboxes, and have their mail postmarked the old fashioned way – with a hand stamp.

Among the customer who visited the office was a couple that rode their tandem bicycle 13 miles for the chance to experience the historic experience at the Melbeta Post Office.
