While Bismarck, ND, P&DF Mail Handler Douglas Sczygelski donated blood in 2014, he saw a National Marrow Donor Program poster mounted on the wall. Without reservation, Sczygelski decided to get involved and added his name to the bone marrow registry. Little did he realize that his decision would soon save a life.

Bone marrow can help save the life of people facing blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma. When Sczygelski’s tissue type matched that of a person in need, he agreed to make the life-saving donation. Six weeks after the initial procedure, the patient needed an additional donation. Sczygelski didn’t hesitate to render the supplementary aid.

Sczygelski’s donations helped save the patient’s life.

During a recent meeting at the Bismarck P&DF, employees celebrated Sczygelski’s generosity. Dakota District manager Doug Stephens presented Sczygelski with a certificate honoring his selfless efforts.

“Your selfless contribution was someone else’s cure,” said Stephens during the presentation.
