On August 11, Fort Dodge, IA, City Carrier Natasha Magee delivered mail along her route when she spotted a dangerous situation. Smoke billowed out from underneath the deck of a customer’s home and the homeowner was nowhere in sight.

Fearing the fire would spread to the home and the rest of the neighborhood, Magee immediately called the Fort Dodge Fire Department and alerted them to the developing situation. Shortly after receiving the call, firefighters were on site and extinguished the fire before it could spread and consume the home.

Magee’s keen awareness of her surroundings and her concern for her customers helped prevent disaster that could have ended with the tragic loss of a family home.
