The number of comic conventions in the United States have expanded dramatically in both popularity and numbers in recent years. As attendance at these events continues to swell, many businesses jump on board to take advantage of the opportunity to sell merchandise and create awareness of products and services.

When city officials temporarily renamed the city of Hutchinson, KS, to Smallville on the weekend of June 20 in support of the second Smallville ComicCon, Postmaster Tammy Hoefer knew it would be a valuable opportunity for the Postal Service to participate.

Hoefer and her staff set up a table at the ComicCon and offered unique items that would be of particular interest to event fans. In addition to distinctive merchandise, Hoefer also offered a special cancellation at the event to give attendees a unique collectible.

ComicCon and Postal Service fans enjoyed the chance to mingle with one another and share a common bond with familiar icons.
