ATMs in Postal Lobbies

ATMs

Automated teller machines can be found in many convenient locations where people shop. From large malls to small grocery stores, the handy cash machines are seemingly everywhere when and where they’re needed most. While ATMs are abundant, not everyone has access to them. Though many people remain without digital access to their funds, there is one organization working to correct that issue.

India Post recently installed its first ATM machine in its Bengaluru Office. The presence of the machine is set to alleviate the problem of extended wait times for cash transactions at Post Offices by allowing customers to deposit cash into their postal accounts and receiving an ATM card in return to access their money. The new ATM access can provide an individual with the ability to retrieve funds through the kiosk network as well as the ability to make electronic deposits to an account.

Post Offices in India already provide savings accounts and small deposits accounts to customers, but without cards accessible by ATM. The new expanded service to postal customers will give them an electronic means of conducting financial transactions while avoiding wait time in line at the counter to retrieve their funds.

The new network of ATMs will continue expanding throughout the year with the final kiosk rollout set for December of this year.

Do you think USPS should offer its customers financial accounts for savings and ATM card transactions?

Yes, I do believe that USPS should re-enter the field of Postal banking. I had a Post Office savings account as a child, and it was wonderful, starting a life-long habit of saving.

I think it’s a great ideal and yes the USPS should initiate it into their system for the very same reasons of decreasing wait times, access of funds and increase in business.

This will also help when the rates go up and people won’t have enough cash, they can use the good ol’ plastic…
