Supporting the Fight Against Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer Research

According to the American Cancer Society, 232,340 new cases of invasive breast cancer will develop in 2013. Approximately 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime, and nearly 40,000 women will die from the deadly disease this year. To aid in the research effort to find a cure, the US Postal Service created the Breast Cancer Research semipostal stamp more than 15 years ago.

Proceeds from the stamp are distributed between the National Institutes for Health and the Medical Research Program at the Department of Defense in support of breast cancer research. As of September 2013, $77,628,062 has been raised in support of developing a cure since the stamp was released on July 29, 1998.
