Blast From USPS Past

Mr ZIP w border

This unique card, originally sent in 1966, is a nostalgic blast from the past that introduces the famous Mr. ZIP. His presence helped promote the new concept of Zip Codes that revolutionized mail delivery service in the United States.

In comparison to the figures on the back of the card below:

– The Postal Service handled more than 159 billion pieces of mail in fiscal year 2012.

– Mail volume decreased by more than 8 billion pieces from 2011 to 2012.

– Delivery points increased by 654,500 in 2012.

  1. I found this in mother’s possessions. She must have kept it from her days in Stockton, CA. She kept a lot of things…

It’s amazing how much stuff we leave behind when it’s our time to go. We think it’s so important to keep, but most of it is tossed out by the next generation. Stuff either makes us feel good to have it or bad to get rid of it. Of course, if you’re like me, we stick stuff in the ‘I’ll take care of it later’ pile. If we wait long enough, we won’t have to worry about it. That’s the real reason my garage is full of junk. Have fun sifting through it, future generations. You’re going to need it:)
